Lincoln comes to Kalamazoo
I have never been a huge Abraham Lincoln fan. I understand the important role he played in history. I respect him for what he did. But there was something about the Civil War as a time period and part of history that never excited me. I love history (and studied it at college) but
But last week, I was able to write stories for work about Lincoln's visit to Kalamazoo (the only he made in Michigan). What was so neat about it was:
a) Being able to write about history and make it relevant to readers in Kalamazoo.
b) Meeting and talking with a group of local history buffs and allow them to share something they are passionate about.
c) Writing this lead in a story (and having it be totally justified): _Seven score and 16 years ago, Abraham Lincoln came to Bronson Park in Kalamazoo to give a speech at a Republican rally._
I have seen the film once and loved it. A great political film. After seeing it, walking home from the bar after having a couple drinks with friends to talk about it, I felt a renewed sense of Lincoln's visit to Kalamazoo.
